About Us

The Archdiocesan Commission for Pastoral Care on Migrants and Itinerants was officially formed in October 2020. Previously, all matters pertaining to the pastoral care for migrants were channelled to the Migrant’s Desk, under the purview of the then Archdiocesan Human Development Commission (AHDC). Made up of twelve members, headed by Mr. Dominic Lim, the Commission had etched the group to be known as ACMI, an acronym for everyone to easily remember. Based in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, ACMI serves as the arm of the Archdiocese of Kota Kinabalu, under the direction of His Grace, Archbishop Datuk John Wong.
Embarking on making the commission and its ministries known to the parishes and neighbouring dioceses, ACMI also continues to promote further the existing programs for migrants, at inter-diocesan levels and at parish levels. Working on identifying key elements on issues faced by the migrant communities, ACMI also embarks on campaigns to raise awareness for local Christian on their responsibility as ‘host’ to the large numbers of migrants, residing and making a living in the Sabah State.

‘It’s not just about migrants, but about all of us’ - Pope Francis

When we show concern for them, we also show concern for ourselves, for everyone; in taking care of them, we all grow; in listening to them, we also give voice to a part of ourselves that we may keep hidden because it is not well regarded nowadays.

“I came so that they might have life and have it more abundantly” (Jn 10:10). It is not just about migrants: it is about the whole person, about all people.
